Creepy crawly pancake webs

Breakfast just got a little bit creepy. Grab a squeezy bottle and turn a super-simple FREE egg pancake batter into spooky spider webs, complete with juicy blackberry bugs and chocolatey eyes. Little hands can get stuck into making their own creepy crawlies too, so it’s part breakfast, part Halloween activity and a whole lot of fun.

Prep time: 5 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes

Serves 4 people

Ingredients

  • For the pancakes
  • 2 large FREE eggs
  • 300ml milk of your choice
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • For the toppings
  • 1 punnet blackberries
  • 50g white chocolate, melted
  • Icing sugar or maple syrup, to serve
  • You will need
  • Bullet blender
  • Squeezy bottle
  • Non-stick frying pan
  • Cocktail stick or piping bag, for the chocolate eyes

Method

  1. Crack the FREE eggs into a bullet blender, then add the milk and flour. Blitz just until you have a smooth, silky batter.
  2. Pour the batter into a squeezy bottle and heat a frying pan over a medium heat. Gently squeeze the batter into the pan to create an 8-pronged star.
  3. Join the prongs with a circle of batter, then add another smaller circle inside to create your spider web. Work fairly quickly as the batter cooks fast.
  4. Fry for 1–2 mins, until the batter has set and bubbles are visible on the surface. Carefully flip the web using a fish slice or spatula and fry for another 1 min on the other side.
  5. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining batter.
  6. Meanwhile, use the end of a cocktail stick or a piping bag to add two little white chocolate eyes to each blackberry.
  7. Serve the pancake webs on a board or platter, scatter over the blackberry bugs and finish with a sprinkling of icing sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup.
